Just like that another month has passed and what a month it was. Filled with lots of excitement, training, and snow! Yep, Mother Nature has decided to make spring look and feel like winter in the Maritimes. I can’t wait to see a tulip!
After many months away from running while I battled some mental health issues, I have returned. Running and I took the month of February to start over and feel each other out. I was running because I had to, as prescribed by my doctor, but wasn’t really feeling it most of the time. By the time March rolled around though, we were best buds again and I was loving everyone moment.
It didn’t take long before the love for this awesome sport turned into race goals. I have registered for a 10 km at Bluenose (May) as well as the Tartan Twosome at Maritime Race Weekend (September). Yep, I’m repeating my 2016 race lineup with the hopes of NO INJURIES and finally completing my first half marathon!
I have also convinced a few of my cousins to walk / run a 5km with me in my home town on Canada Day. This is guaranteed to be a fun time with a whole bunch of silliness and laughter!
I have my training plans lined up for the season with this being week one of the 10km plan. Everything is going great and I’m loving every moment of it. I am having a little trouble adjusting the diet to fuel and hydrate myself properly but that will come.
Besides loving the running… I have completely fallen in love with another….Yoga!
I have been a fan since the first time I stepped on my mat last year, but have recently been embracing yoga as more than just a form of exercise I can use to supplement my running. It has sort of integrated itself into most of my day – breathing, mindfulness, a respect for me – physically, mentally and spiritually, and an awareness of the world around. It’s been an empowering, loving and awesome journey this far. I look forward to all the beauty that awaits as I continue this practice.
Two yoga practice sessions stand out from this past month. Yoga Nidra with Sound Healing Singing Bowls and Family Yoga. Both were new exposures but will be added to my list of things to keep doing.
If you ever have the chance to experience the healing singing bowls – do it! I have never slept as well as I did after the session and woke up more refreshed than I even thought possible. Don’t understand it completely, don’t know if I ever will, but it is freaking awesome!
Family yoga was an afternoon class in a lovely studio with my 8 year old daughter. We participated in age appropriate songs to lead us through movements, a sun salutation, painting of some Mandalas and moments of pure love. You can’t help but be moved to tears when you are looking into your child’s eyes at the end of class, hands in prayer and both of you are repeating, “I wish you peace, I wish you happiness, I wish you love.” The connections and love were intense…and beautiful.
So, there it is. March – a month of discovery and falling in love!
Today the sun is shining, the windows are open, my long run for the week is done, and my smile is on! Come on April – I’m ready for ya!
Happy Running and Namaste!
P.S. Are you refreshing your social media as often as I am today? I can’t wait to see how the Barkley plays out and if April will EVER have her calf!!
